Brazilian airline Azul announces that it has obtained the necessary certifications to operate with Embraer 195s converted into auxiliary freighters.
A first aircraft has already been transformed into a "Preighter" and made its first cargo flight on September 26, a world first according to the company.
Three more aircraft will be converted before the end of the year. The 4 E195s will thus increase the capacities of its subsidiary Azul Cargo Express, which already operates with two Boeing 737-400F aircraft, in order to meet the e-commerce needs in Brazil. Two of the four E195s have already been dedicated to an e-commerce provider for a period of at least six months. In addition, Azul's dedicated fleet
capabilities are further expanded by its five ATR 72-600 Quick-Change aircraft.
"We are excited to continue diversifying our business model with the adaptation of these four Embraer aircraft. The size, range, and performance of the E195, gives it the perfect combination of payload capacity, volume capacity and low trip-cost economics allowing fast and efficient logistics access all around Brazil", said John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul.
