Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) took the opportunity of the MRO Asia-Pacific ehibition in Singapore to sign an exclusive contract with Safran Nacelles to maintain the nacelles of its three Airbus A380s (two aircraft already in service, with the third expected next year). This is a 10-year NacelleLife service contract.

ANA's A380s are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 900s. Remember that the programme's two engines have nacelles designed by Safran Nacelles.

The new NacelleLife contract was signed by Olivier Savin, VP Customer Support & Services at Safran Nacelles and by Tatsuhiko Mitsukura, executive vice president and member of the board at ANA's Engineering & Maintenance division (photo).

Olivier Savin told us that the Japanese airline was given a customised package to respond exactly to its requirements. He also noted that ANA's A380s represent a specific challenge, as they only operate a small number of aircraft flying between Japan and Hawaii, far from the Safran Nacelles rear bases of Singapore, Dubai or France. "This is why we have decided to position a spare nacelle air inlet in Honolulu, in the middle of the Pacific, which is a specific case", he explained to us.

The repairs that may be carried out under wing will be carried out by Safran Nacelles and ANA teams. In the most complex cases, the repairs will be carried out in France with a standard exchange.

But Olivier Savin also told us that they were thinking about setting up closer repair capacities to respond to a request from China Southern Airlines, which is based in Guangzhou, and which has five A380s. "We are currently looking at where we could move a certain amount of intervention capacity in Asia", he revealed.
