Flying Colours announced on 24th January, during a regional NBAA forum in Florida, that it was investing significantly in its support capabilities for ADS-B Out systems. The North American MRO company is buying new equipment and strengthening its teams to increase its transponder installation capabilities by around 30%. It wants to be able to carry out ten operations of this type per month, at its Canadian site at Peterborough (Ontario) and its US site at St. Louis (Missouri), compared with seven at the moment.
Flying Colours has a strong presence in MRO for Bombardier business jets and has also developed additional type certificates (STC) to install ADS-B Out systems on part of the Challenger range. The American, Canadian and European authorities have validated the company's work on Challenger 604s and 605s. Flying Colours has equipped around twenty planes on its own and sold its STCs to other completion centres for an extra twenty planes.
The company has carried out the same work for the Challenger 300. For the moment, its STC has only been validated in the United States, but Canadian and European approvals are expected over the coming weeks.
With these investments, Flying Colours is anticipating the entry into force on 1st January 2020 of the mandate by the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for all commercial planes to be equipped with ADS-B Out, like all planes which operate in Class A, B and C air space and E above 10 000 feet and in certain regions. The company is therefore expecting an increase in orders over the coming months. has Flying Colours has installed more than 30 ADS-B Out solutions in the last year.
