(MRO Europe 2017) The collapse of Monarch will not prevent its former MRO division, Monarch Aircraft Engineering Limited (MAEL) from continuing to operate and develop its activities, according to a statement by its chief executive Chris Dare. The Monarch fleet accounted for nearly half of the maintenance company's total activities. MAEL refers in particular to the contract won with Virgin Atlantic for the C-Checks on its Boeing 787-9s scheduled for between 2017 and 2021, as well as to its activities related to Boeing Global Services (ex-GoldCare). In addition, a first Virgin Atlantic Dreamliner is currently undergoing a major inspection in its Birmingham hangar. MAEL employs 730 people, mainly at different sites around the UK (Luton and Birmingham), but also at various locations all around Europe for its line maintenance activities.
