Safran Nacelles has added a new string to its bow by positioning itself on engine MRO. Safran's specialist nacelle subsidiary has just launched a jet engine element maintenance offer with the capacity to repair OGVs (Outlet Guide Vanes) for CFM International's CFM56-5B which power Airbus A320ceo family aircraft.
The CFM56 OGvs are produced by Safran Aircraft Engines.
Safran Nacelles told us in Orlando that the damaged OGVs were often discarded by operators to be replaced by new parts, even if some of them had designed repair solutions in agreement with the technical documentation provided by CFM International.
The new OGV repair offer proposed by Safran Nacelles will therefore enable a reduction in the costs generated by the wear on these fixed elements located at the end of the bypass stream. The market is an especially promising one, given the high number of CFM56-5Bs that have been produced since 1994.
The repairs, which may involve replacing the outer platform (if cracked, for example) and their leading edges (impact from hail, etc.) are carried out at the Safran Nacelles Centre of Excellence in Pont-Audemer (Normandy, France).
