The Thai development agency (BOI) revealed an investment plan of some $5.7 billion aimed at developing the MRO capacities at U-Tapao airport. The project comprises three phases that are spread out between 2017 and 2031.

The first phase (2017-2021) will allow the construction of a new maintenance hangar for Thai Airways. The second phase (2022-2026) will be devoted to the development of a new hub dedicated to the MRO.

The third phase will focus on the development of the country's industrial capababilities in aerospace. The two U-Tapao runways will be lengthened.
