Split Scimitar winglets approved for AEI's 737-800 freighter

Aeronautical Engineers (AEI) is the first conversion company to be given the go-ahead from the FAA to offer a 737-800 freighter equipped with the Split Scimitar Winglets developed by Aviation Partners Boeing (APB).
AEI will therefore be able to offer its 737-800SF with the advanced-technology winglet systems, specifying that no additional cost was to be expected compared to traditional Blended Winglets. The Miami-based company also says that 853 Boeing 737-800s are now equipped with Split Scimitar Winglets, significantly increasing the number of aircraft potentially available for conversion.

Split Scimitar winglets have been certified by the FAA on the 737-800 in February 2014. They notably make it possible to increase the payload by up to 1.25 tonne or increase the range of the aircraft by up to 75 nautical miles compared to APB's previous Blended Winglets.
