Lufthansa Technik Malta is preparing its first heavy maintenance check for the A350. An Airbus A350-900 operated by an undisclosed airline is expected to land in Valletta in the next few weeks for its first C-check.

The Lufthansa Group's MRO subsidiary also states that three international operators have signed maintenance contracts to be carried out in Malta for their A350s. Among them, Air Mauritius, which had received its first two A350-900s in 2017.

Lufthansa Technik Malta's A350 heavy maintenance capability was initiated in 2016. The maintenance center was certified as a base maintenance organization for the A350-900 by the German Federal Office of Civil Aviation (LBA) in October 2018, an approval followed by the A350-1000 certification last August.

More than three million euros were invested to transform two of the six heavy maintenance lines of the facility to accommodate the latest generation of Airbus long-haul aircraft (new aircraft docks, tools, trainings ...).

In addition, Lufthansa Technik Malta has already hosted an Airbus A350-1000 for a cabin modification works last September, an aircraft that had just been delivered to Virgin Atlantic.
