AMES expands its Dubai facility

On the eve of the opening of MRO Middle East exhibition, Aerostructures Middle East Services (AMES) inaugurated the extension of its Dubai facility at Jebel Ali on February 24. The joint venture 50-50 owned by Safran Nacelles and Air France KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) has just doubled its workshop surface and workforce to develop its most recent activity, namely preventive maintenance of Fan Stator Modules (FSM) of General Electric GE90 engines (Boeing 777).
AMES had in fact been retained by a major airline in the region to carry out preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs) and associated repairs to its fan cases. A first GE90 FSM was thus re-delivered last October. With the extension of its facility, AMES has also acquired state-of-the-art equipment, such as ultrasonic inspection systems for the fan stator modules' composite panels and metallic components.
Preventive maintenance (PMI) inspections of the GE90-110 /- 115B fan cases must be carried out after 50,000 flight hours, according to specifications mandated by the engine manufacturer.
As a reminder, the Jebel Ali maintenance center was built on its capacity to repair nacelles and other composite aerostructure elements for the entire Middle East region and the Indian peninsula. Last year, AMES already extended its capabilities with the LEAP-1A nacelles (A320neo family), the Trent 7000 nacelles being in the firing line (A330neo).
