OGMA will be the fifth GTF MRO center in Europe

It's a big surprise. Pratt & Whitney is once again extending its GTF MRO global network by relying on OGMA (Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal S.A), the subsidiary of the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer located in Alverca. Better known for its aerostructure production and military MRO activities, OGMA has nevertheless more than 100 years of experience in aircraft engine maintenance.

Embraer's Portuguese subsidiary will become the fifth maintenance center approved by the American engine manufacturer for the GTF (Geared Turbofan) in Europe, in particular on the PW1100G-JM (Airbus A320neo family). OGMA has worked for the last 12 months to expand its scope of services in the field of engine maintenance, an initiative rewarded by the finalization of this contract with Pratt & Whitney.

For Johann Bordais, President and CEO, Embraer Services & Support, "This contract is a demonstration of OGMA's high level of expertise and competence in the maintenance of aircraft engines and represents an opportunity for the Embraer group to expand its business in providing services to other manufacturers in the international market. In line with Embraer's new strategy, it is a diversification of the businesses that will result in the growth of the Services & Support area in the coming years."

The Portuguese aerospace company will invest 74 million euros to develop this new capability over the next four years. A first phase will start next year with the establishment of the engine shop and the training of the first dedicated mechanics. More than 300 jobs will thus be created in Alverca, in particular between 2022 and 2023 when the new engine shop ramps up. OGMA even expects a tripling of its annual turnover, which will thus reach 600 million euros.

"With OGMA, we add a highly capable maintenance provider with a long history of engine overhaul experience. As the GTF fleet continues to grow, the network will be ready to support our expanding global customer base " said Dave Emmerling, vice president, Commercial Aftermarket at Pratt & Whitney.

As a reminder, Pratt & Whitney GTF engines are also powering Embraer's new E-Jet E2 family, as well the Airbus A220 family.
