Sabena Technics hasn't let the grass grow under its feet in implementing the contract it signed with Air Europa in July. On 5th November, the French MRO company announced that it had carried out its first C-Check on one of the Spanish airline's Boeing 787-8 aircraft. And the second aircraft scheduled under this "nose to tail" agreement has already arrived at its Bordeaux-Mérignac facilities.

Sabena Technics was congratulated by Alberto Lines, Air Europa's Maintenance & Engineering director: "We at Air Europa are greatly impressed with Sabena technics' performance completing this first 787 C-check on time". This is the first time that the company has carried out a major inspection for this type of aircraft. It had received approval for 787-8/9/10 maintenance and modification from France's Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile (DGAC) last December.

This contract could bring others with it, as Alberto Lines hinted: "We remain fully confident with Sabena technics for future projects". The prospects are interesting for the MRO company. Air Europa already operates eight 787-8s and has just taken possession of its sixth 787-9. It is expecting another ten by 2021. In addition, Sabena Technics was already providing airframe solutions for Air Europa's Airbus A330 fleet.

IAG (International Airlines Group) has since agreed to acquire Air Europa for EUR1 billion, a transaction expected to be completed in the first half of 2020.
