Magnetic MRO has decided to launch itself onto an under-exploited market in China, the cabin redevelopment market. The maintenance company has signed an agreement via its MAC Aero Interiors subsidiary with Benniao Aviation to create a specialist joint enterprise in this field, MAC Sichuan. It is tasked with providing a complete technical solution for the cabins of owners and Chinese operators.
These skills were cover cabin design, layout, maintenance and modification. The joint enterprise will also have equipment production and installation capacities. These capacities will cover all travel classes from first to economy, along with VIP cabins. In terms of the types of plane, the company will be authorised to work on the whole A320 family, Boeing 737s and A380s.
Petras Akstinas, the chief executive of MAC Aero Interiors, explains that China is one of the main markets which is contributing to the growth of the cabin interiors industry, which is why the company wants to set up there. The sector is full of promise since "most local MRO companies, including the large ones, concentrate on heavy maintenance. Consequently, segments such as cabin renovation are not developing to their full potential and are mostly under-developed in terms of effectiveness, personnel training and application of new technologies. Therefore, the existing Chinese cabin interiors market lacks experienced engineers and one-stop shop solutions which, in turn, is leading to limited competition and high cabin maintenance costs for local airlines".
MAC Aero Interiors is able to produce components from different materials (plastic, composite, foam, metal, textile) for line fit equipment and for specific equipment replacement or full redesign programmes. The company will be providing its full industrial know-how while Bennaio Aviation will be providing its network and sales forces to develop the joint enterprise. In this way, Hangxin, Magnetic MRO's parent company, will be strengthening itself in its own market.
