On 8th March, StandardAero announced that its new subsidiary Vector Aerospace has signed a support contract with the British Army Air Corps for the maintenance of its fleet of 26 Gazelle AH Mk1 helicopters. The contract will take effect in April 2018 and may be extended until 30th June 2022 if all contract extension options are exercised.
The helicopters will be serviced at the Fleetlands site in Gosport (Hampshire). These are the former facilities of the Defence Aviation Repair Agency, the body responsible for servicing British military aircraft which were taken over by Vector Aerospace in 2008.
This signature follows the decision of the British Ministry of Defence in July 2016 to extend the operational lifetime of its Gazelles by nine years until 2025. These helicopters were integrated into the Army Air Corps in 1973 and so after nearly 50 years of service require significant maintenance work. This contract does not cover the final three years of their operational lifetime.
