Southwest Airlines will build a new hangar for its MRO needs at Houston Hobby airport (Texas).
The new facilities, whose construction works will start next spring, are expected to be completed in the second half of 2019. Covering 23,000 sqm, a new hangar will be capable to accommodate up to six Boeing 737s simultaneously. A new aircraft wash area will also be created.
Also in Texas, Southwest's main base at Love Field airport (Dallas) already has very large maintenance facilities that can perform major C-Checks under MSG-3 maintenance program.
The low-cost airline has already a dozen MRO facilities in the United States, capable of providing complete repairs. Four of them can make scheduled maintenance visits up to the C-Check.
Southwest Airlines employs over 1,700 mechanics for its current fleet of 695 Boeing 737 NG and 737 MAX. It will receive 411 new aircraft by 2027.
