Services by Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer's dedicated services branch, has been selected by Singapore Airlines to take part in major modifications to the cabins of 14 A380s which are currently in service in its fleet.
The Airbus entity which is run by Laurent Martinez will then be responsible for various Service Bulletins (SB) and cabin component kits. Services by Airbus will also provide its engineering skills and deep knowledge of the aircraft.
The cabin modifications will be carried out in SIA Engineering's hangars in Changi, with work beginning on the first aircraft at the end of 2018. All the A380 fleet will be retrofitted by 2020.
Singapore Airlines had unveiled the new interior design for its A380s at the start of November, with the new layout to be installed in the five new planes expected by next year. The first of them is due to be delivered very soon, with a first commercial flight announced for December between Singapore and Sydney.
This new 471-seat four-class layout features 6 new first class Suites which are now placed on the upper deck, accompanied by two big new lavatories.
