Bedek Aviation Group, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has announced that it is going to set up an aircraft conversion site in Mexico City for conversion of Boeing 767-300's into freighters, in cooperation with Mexicana MRO Services, the former maintenance division of defunct airline Mexicana de Aviación.
Mexicana MRO Services will therefore be a sub-contractor of Bedek for the aircraft to be converted.
Following training at IAI, several dozen employees of the Mexican company, including structure engineers, electricians, mechanics and engineers will then be deployed to this new activity.
According to Bedek, the first 767 is expected at the Mexicana MRO Services facilities at the end of June.
Orders have been won to convert "several planes". This collaboration between the two entities should generate "projects worth several tens of millions of dollars over the coming years". |
