Pratt & Whitney to adapt its Maine facility to add PW1100G-JM MRO capabilities |

Pratt & Whitney will invest $ 12.5 million in its North Berwick facility (Maine) to add GTF MRO Capabilities. More specifically, the factory will perform maintenance on high pressure turbine (2 stages) as well as on the high pressure compressor module (8 stages) for the PW1100G-JM which powers the Airbus A320neo family.
According to Pratt & Whitney, this investment will strengthen Pratt & Whitney's global GTF MRO network and will directly benefit operators by reducing turnaround time associated to compressor upgrades and repairs.
"We're committed to the continued capability expansion of the network and continue to pursue all opportunities to better support our customer base," said Joe Sylvestro, vice president of Aftermarket Operations at Pratt & Whitney. "By tapping into the expertise and experience of our North Berwick team, we're excited to further strengthen our MRO capability."
The transformation will consist of upgrades to the current space, increasing efficiencies to help minimize disruption to the current flow of operations and allowing for a seamless transition as the facility takes on a new role. Pratt & Whitney will therefore adapt part of the production site to accommodate specific equipment for disassembly, assembly and engine test.
As a reminder, the North Berwick facility is already participating in the production of GTF parts. It also produces many elements of the F-135 military engine (F-35 Lightning II). Covering more than 9 hectares, the facility employs nearly 1,500 people.
