Sanad Aerotech has gained a foothold in Africa. The Mubadala subsidiary has announced that it signed an agreement with Ethiopian Airlines to establish a centre of excellent for the repair and maintenance of auxiliary power units (APUs) at the Ethiopian hub. It follows an agreement protocol which was signed on this subject in 2018.
Initially, this centre will be working on Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 APUs. But the two partners have already been thinking about expanding its prerogatives. The Abu Dhabi-based MRO company and the airline are planning to offer this centre's services to other African airlines. They then mean to extend its capacities to other equipment and then to engines, Sanad's other speciality.
"This strategic alliance with Sanad Aerotech is in keeping with Ethiopian Airlines's desire to make its MRO centre the leading supplier of MRO services in Africa, thanks to strategic partnerships with OEM and selected international MRO service providers", said Tewolde GebreMariam.
As for Sanad, this agreement sees it launch its international expansion project through strategic alliances and opens up a pathway for it into Africa. Previously, the MRO company had carried out a lot of work on its strategic partnerships with OEM, which bore fruit with Rolls-Royce, General Electric, and International Aero Engines, and enabled it to provide several service solutions across a varied number of platforms.
