For the last year now the Dr Peters group has been seeking to give a second life to the A380s which Singapore Airlines has withdrawn from service. The axe has just fallen for the two aircraft stored at Tarbes: they will be dismantled. After the failure of negotiations with British Airways, HiFly and Iran Air around leasing or a sale, the German group has decided to recommend that its shareholders approve this solution and the resale of their spare parts.
The dismantling work will be carried out by VAS Aero Services. Dr Peters feel that the resale of components alone could bring in 45 million dollars in two years as the operating airlines will need them for the coming maintenance inspections. The group is emphasising that the landing gear and the APU in particular could be transferred very quickly.
In relation to the Rolls-Royce Trent 900s which power them, Dr Peters wants to extend their leasing contracts beyond March 2019. Here again the reason is the increase in the number of engines which will need to undergo maintenance inspections over the coming years. The engines will still be sold at the end of 2020.
This solution will be presented on 28th June to the German group's shareholders, who will need to approve or reject it. The other two A380s which were previously operated by Singapore Airlines (MSN5 and MSN6) have joined HiFly's ACMI fleet.
