The CRJ200 SFs can now operate in Europe. On 14th May, Aeronautical Engineers (AEI) celebrated the award of a supplemental type certificate (STC) from the EASA for its programme to convert Bombardier's CRJ200s into full freighter aircraft (CRJ200 SF). This programme has been in place and operational in the United States since the STC was obtained from the FAA at the end of 2016.
Since then, the programme has registered commitments for the conversion of over 45 aircraft. Six projects are in progress for different customers. The modifications include the drilling of a 1.78 m x 2.39 m cargo door, the installation of an Ancra loading system and the replacement of windows with aluminium covers.
The CRJ200 SF can transport up to 6 611 kg, depending on the original model's limitations, and eight 1.55 m x 2.24 m pallets.
The CRJ100 and CRJ200 conversion programmes had been launched together in 2013. They respond to a need for relatively long regional services with reduced demand which do not allow for the use of bigger single-aisle aircraft.
